Understanding Proxy Speed Limits
ProxyPorts proxies have a hard uplink cap of 100 Mbps. This is the maximum bandwidth available per proxy, regardless of your local internet speed.
When 100 Mbps Feels Slow
100 Mbps is fast for most tasks — browsing, streaming, and social media management. However, it can feel slow when:
- Uploading large files — Uploading 2-3 GB video files to YouTube or TikTok will naturally saturate the 100 Mbps uplink for extended periods. This is expected behavior, not a proxy issue.
- Running speed tests — Speed tests measure peak throughput. If you are testing through a proxy located far from the speed test server, latency and routing will reduce the measured speed.
- Multiple tasks through one proxy — If several devices or tabs share one proxy, they split the 100 Mbps bandwidth between them.
Mobile Hotspot and IP Whitelisting Issues
Connecting through a mobile hotspot introduces two problems:
- IP Whitelisting failures — Mobile carriers use CGNAT (Carrier-Grade NAT), which assigns private routing IPs that change frequently. This means your public IP does not match what you whitelisted on the ProxyPorts dashboard, causing authentication to fail.
- Degraded speed — The additional hop through the mobile carrier\'s network adds latency and reduces throughput compared to a direct LAN or Wi-Fi connection.
Recommendation: If you must use a mobile hotspot, switch to Username & Password authentication instead of IP Whitelisting, and expect reduced speeds.
Tips for Maximum Speed
- Connect via wired Ethernet or stable Wi-Fi — avoid mobile hotspots when speed matters.
- Use Username & Password authentication if your IP is not static.
- Reduce concurrent threads — Staying well below the 100-thread limit ensures each connection gets adequate bandwidth.
- Choose a proxy location close to your target — A US proxy accessing US websites will always be faster than a US proxy accessing servers in Asia.
- Close background applications — Cloud sync tools, software updaters, and browser extensions consume bandwidth silently.
